Teen of The Month

Local teen to be awarded
$5,000 scholarship
Pennsylvania General Energy Company (PGE) and Sample News Group, the parent company of The Standard Journal in Milton has launched a Lycoming Valley Teen of the Month program in partnership with the fifteen high schools in Lycoming, Sullivan and lower Tioga County counties to recognize the exemplary efforts of high school seniors.
Each month the schools will nominate a senior (or seniors) for Teen of the Month and The Standard Journal staff will judge and announce a winner the last Wednesday of each month, September through May. The teens will be chosen not only on their academic and sports achievements, but also those who excel in other extracurriculars – such as band, chorus, and at church or in their communities. PGE is looking for students who truly make a difference, going above and beyond in their local community. A student will be highlighted with a story and photo detailing his or her accomplishments inside and outside of the classroom.
Once all students have been recognized, Pennsylvania General Energy Company LLC will award a $5,000 scholarship to the TEEN OF THE YEAR at a reception, details forthcoming.
The scholarship can be used toward the continuation of their studies.
At the end of the school year, every Teen of the Month biography will be featured in a special publication.
This program is an acknowledgement of student leadership and a recognition of students who achieve the balance it requires to excel in the classroom and in the communities in which they live and, in some cases, work.

Students who give back to the community through their efforts in clubs or extra-curriculars deserve recognition, and the “Teen of the Month” program is a great way to highlight these future leaders by honoring their achievements for all to see,” says Rachel Anderson of PGE’s Corporate Giving Committee..“We are proud to recognize and praise all those students striving to do their best.” This is PGE’s second year doing a scholarship program in the area for local teens.
We are extremely honored to partner with Pennsylvania General Energy Company to feature the best and brightest students in the Lycoming Valley. “Our students are our future and we need to engage them and recognize their efforts” said George “Scoop” Sample of Sample News Group.
A Teen of the Month story will be featured on the Lycoming Valley Teens Facebook page and on the Lycoming Valley Teens Make a Difference Website.

PGE Building Strong Community
PGE is a local natural gas exploration and production company that has been active in PA for 30+ years.
We focus on producing quality energy and protecting the environment, but also building strong community. PGE has developed a $5000 scholarship program to area seniors that are going above and beyond for their schools and communities.
This program will highlight seniors throughout the Lycoming Valley each month for their accomplishments in and out of school. Toward the end of the 2025 school year, one of the prior monthly students will be selected for the “Student of the Year” and receive the scholarship. Hard work is a core value for PGE, and we want to highlight students for their achievements and plans to help shape a better community and workforce for the future.
